A woman abruptly went from Walmart to riches after playing the South Carolina lottery and winning a jackpot prize.
“It was an amazing day,” she told lottery officials.
The woman was on her way to Walmart to shop when she decided to play the lottery first, according to an Oct. 26 news release.
She bought her $10 Cash Bonanza ticket at the Krishna Indian Grocery store in North Charleston, according to lottery officials. She added that she didn’t believe the win staring back at her right away.
She had won the top prize of $300,000, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.
The woman abandoned her Walmart shopping plans and made a beeline for the lottery headquarters to cash the prize — but not before picking up her husband from the house.
“He thought I was lying,” she told lottery officials. “He had the ticket in his hand and still couldn’t believe it.”
The couple took home $207,000 after taxes, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.
The odds of winning the top prize in the Cash Bonanza are 1 in 900,000, according to the South Carolina Education Lottery.
