Marion County man wins big in the Kentucky Lottery

A man from Marion County told lottery officials he and his wife plan to wipe out some of their debt and winning the lottery will ease their stress.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A man from Bradfordsville, Ky., who wishes to remain anonymous, is in disbelief after winning $225,000 on the Kentucky Lottery’s Cash Ball 225 game.

He purchased one set of numbers for $1 at Redi Mart on Bluegrass Pike in Danville Saturday, Aug. 13, for the drawing later that same evening.

Around midnight he checked his ticket, discovering he had won the game’s $225,000 top prize.

“I saw I had the first two numbers, squeezed out the third number and went on to match the fourth and fifth numbers,” he told lottery officials. “It was kind of unreal.”

He said he immediately went to wake his wife up to tell her what had happened while she was sleeping.

“She wasn’t comprehending what I was saying, so she rolled over and told me we would talk about it in the morning,” he said. He, on the other hand, said he didn’t get much sleep.

The next morning, he and his wife took the ticket to a couple stores to confirms it was, in fact, a winner.

“We saw $225,000 on the screen and that’s when I was like, okay, this is real. The rest of the day we talked about what we were going to do with the money,” he said.

The lucky lottery winner claimed the ticket Monday morning at Lottery Headquarters in Louisville where he received a check for $159,750, after taxes.

He told officials he and his wife plan to wipe out some of their debt and winning the lottery will ease the stress.

Redi Mart will receive a $2,250 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
