Ricky Futrell bought a $100 Million Mega Cash scratch-off ticket from the Speedway on Richlands Highway, according to lottery officials in a May 16 news release.

Futrell was the first person to win a top prize in the $100 Million Mega Cash game, which launched on May 2.

“I’m shaking,” Futrell told the N.C. Education Lottery. “It’s overwhelming.”

According to lottery officials, Futrell was offered the choice of receiving a $100,000 payout annually for 20 years or cashing out a lump sum of $1.2 million right away.

Futrell picked the lump sum and took home $852,126 after taxes.
