WHITE MARSH, MD — A businessman who tried his luck at a gas station near White Marsh scored $1.6 million recently, according to the Maryland Lottery.
The man, who is remaining anonymous, spent $6 on a Multi-Match game, for which the jackpot had a $2.2 million annuity value.
“I still cannot believe it,” said the winner, who claimed his prize money on Wednesday.
Since he chose to receive it in cash, he went home with $1.6 million, lottery officials said.
The man said he has had trouble sleeping since buying the ticket for the Aug. 18 drawing and discovering his windfall, after playing the lottery for 40 years. His prize was the largest of any ticket sold or redeemed in Maryland for the week ending Aug. 21, officials said.
He plans to use his prize money to help others, the winner told lottery personnel.
The Royal Farms where he purchased his ticket at 11905 Market Way, off White Marsh Boulevard, is also a winner, receiving a $2,200 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling a jackpot-winning ticket.
