Hamilton at DPAC, Durham NC: How to enter $10 ticket lottery

Don’t throw away your shot at seeing “Hamilton” in Durham for only $10 this spring.

The ticket lottery started Friday for the hit Broadway musical coming to the Durham Performing Arts Center. It can only be accessed using the official “Hamilton” smartphone app. Lucky winners will be able to purchase two tickets at an extreme discount.

Here are more details about the Tony Award-winning production and how the lottery works.

When is ‘Hamilton’ at DPAC

“Hamilton” performances will be at DPAC from May 17 to June 5.

Act fast, though — all 32 DPAC performances in 2018 sold out for a total attendance of more than 86,000, The News & Observer reported previously.

Showtimes range from early afternoon to the evening, depending on the day.

Performances from Tuesday to Thursday start at 7:30 p.m. and Friday performances start at 8 p.m. Saturday performances start at 2 p.m and at 1 p.m. on Sundays.

DPAC requires attendees 12 and older to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a recent negative COVID-19 test.

How to enter the lottery

The digital lottery, announced Friday, provides a limited number of $10 tickets for every show.

It’s important to know that the lottery is currently available only for performances starting Tuesday, May 17 to Sunday, May 22.

The first lottery opened at 10 a.m. Friday and will close at 12 noon, Thursday, May 12.

For future shows, the lottery will open each Friday and close the following Thursday each week.

No purchase is necessary to enter.

Prospective lottery participants have to be at least 18 years of age with a valid photo ID. The lottery can be accessed by downloading the official app for “Hamilton” on the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store to enter for a chance to win.

Winners — and non-winners — will be notified between 1 and 4 p.m. every Thursday for the upcoming week’s shows via email or mobile notifications. Winners only have two hours to claim and pay for any tickets they win.

Only two tickets can be bought per winner, and only one lottery entry is permitted per person.

Purchased tickets can be picked up at will-call at DPAC starting two hours before the performance with a valid photo ID. Scalpers, beware: the lottery tickets are void if resold.
