Collinsville High School senior Angel Fabian was awarded a $1,000 Scholar Athlete Award from GO! St. Louis and the Missouri Lottery. He participated in the Kahoks on the GO! club at CHS, running with teachers and students training for the GO! St. Louis Half Marathon.

“He was awarded this for having a wonderful GPA, great attendance, completing an essay of 500 words, completing at least 50 hours of community service while in high school and running the St. Louis on the GO! 1/2 marathon,” said Kahoks on the GO! sponsor Alicia Furlow.

In his essay, Angel wrote, “I started to jog during the springtime (two years ago) and haven’t stopped since. It helped me gain my focus in school, my mental health and helped me set goals to improve on.”

Angel credited running with helping him with managing his time and grades. “Overall, jogging has impacted me more than I ever thought it would,” he said. “I’m still wondering what more it’ll do for me later in life. I know I won’t be stopping anytime soon.”
