The man from Geelong in the Victoria state of Australia accidentally entered different numbers than usual in the lottery drawn September 12 and landed the big prize, said a release by the Lott media centre.
“They’re special numbers, and I use them every time, but one of the numbers on this ticket is entirely wrong,” he was quoted as saying.
He didn’t even the check the results as usual, and even missed a few calls by The Lott official who wanted to convey the good news.
But luck doggedly pursued him and the man finally answered the call to discover he’d won the prize – by marking the “wrong” number.
“That means if I hadn’t made that mistake…It’s bloody fantastic. It’s awesome! One million dollars – what the hell!” he said.
At current exchange rates, i million Australian dollars would by the equivalent of 5.36 crores in Indian rupees.
The lucky man was reportedly planning a big holiday with his family in Europe or America to celebrate his lottery win, the report said.
